Optical Design

From concept to reality — precision lens and optical system design across a broad range of applications

OEA provides expert optical design services spanning instrumentation, consumer electronics, defense, and research. Each design is optimized for the specific performance requirements, environmental conditions, and manufacturing constraints of your project.

M

Czerny-Turner Design

Mirror Based Spectrometer

Below is a Czerny-Turner spectrometer — a common mirror-based spectrometer. This reflective design uses two concave mirrors and a diffraction grating to disperse and focus light, offering broad spectral range with minimal chromatic aberration.

H

High-Performance Fourier Lens

Holographic Data Storage

Holographic data storage requires the use of high-performance Fourier lenses — low distortion, near diffraction-limited performance. What is unique about a Fourier lens is that the performance must be excellent in both the image and pupil plane to preserve image information in the frequency domain, which is recorded in the holographic media.

C

Low-Light Athermal Design

Camera Lenses

This lens represents a demanding design optimized for low-light detection to maximize CCD sensitivity in low-light conditions. The lens is designed to be athermal — maintaining focus over a -50°C to +50°C temperature range.

F

Laser Scanning Applications

F-Theta Scanning Lens

An example of a scanning lens typically used for laser scanning applications. These lenses are common in laser printers and barcode readers, providing a linear relationship between scan angle and image height for uniform spot size across the scan field.

P

360° Catadioptric System

Panoramic Imaging

A 360-degree field-of-view catadioptric lens system. Distortion of the system is tailored to maximize resolution in specific regions. Similar to a fisheye lens, this design is utilized in surveillance and security applications.
